secret affinities

In my first real prolonged stay in in Japan, I was like a sponge that absorbed almost passively everything around it. All seemed interesting and worthy of attention. I chose to use colour films because I wanted to report what I saw without too many filters or alterations. And what I saw corresponded to what I felt.

I walked excited, curious, looking for anything that appeared typically japanese. I was a blank sheet of paper, a whiteboard ready to be filled with ideas and notes. I consider this approach very far from my current way of establishing contact between my being and the life around me, but I think that, at that time, it was natural to let the enviroment strongly influence me.
